I don't like how that word has come to mean "trendy", that's the polar opposite of cool.
Cool is being comfortable with yourself, being honest and open without shame,
doing what makes you happy without worrying about what other people think,
and never judging others for doing the same.
Cool is not an exclusive club, it is a liberal perspective on life.
It's funny how the use of "nerd" has come a lot closer to the original meaning of cool.
